Top Eight Tips for a Successful CVSA Roadcheck
Top Eight Tips for a Successful CVSA Roadcheck
June 5-7 is the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s 31st Annual International Roadcheck
And just like that, the CVSA International Roadcheck is upon us! During the dates of June 5-7, 2018, commercial motor vehicle inspectors in jurisdictions throughout North America will conduct inspections of commercial motor vehicles and drivers. Over that 72-hour period, the CVSA will emphasize compliance with hours-of-service, as this was a major cause for violations last year. Roughly 64,000 trucks will be inspected and historically 19.5% of the trucks inspected are placed on OSVC and 33% receive violations.
Here are Navajo’s top eight tips to make sure you are fully prepared for the increased inspections.
1. YOU MUST CERTIFY YOUR LOGS EVERY DAY.
2. ENSURE YOU ARE LOGGING FUEL STOPS, LOADING, UNLOADING AND ROADSIDE INSPECTIONS – THE DOT WILL BE LOOKING FOR THIS.
3. MISUSE OF PERSONAL CONVEYANCE COULD RESULT IN FALSE LOG VIOLATION.
4. DRIVERS MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE ELD THAT THEY ARE FULLY UTILIZING AND TRANSMITTING LOGS TO THE DOT OFFICER.
5. DRIVERS MUST HAVE AN ELD INFORMATION CARD.
6. DRIVERS MUST HAVE A PAPER LOG BOOK AS BACK UP.
7. CHECK THE CONDITION OF YOUR TIRES (FABRIC SHOWING, FLATS, AIRLEAKS, ETC.).
8. LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS MUST BE FUNCTIONING – NO DEFECTS.
CVSA Roadchecks are creeping closer, so be sure to follow these tips in order to pass inspection with flying colors. And, as always, continue to focus on pre and post trip inspections. If you have any questions on these tips or the roadchecks, do not hesitate to reach out to our safety department.
